CABLE NEWS. SERIOUS RIOT AT LIMERICK.
EXTRAORDINARY PROCLAMATION BY AYOUB. A HOLY WAR DECLARED AGAINST THE ENGLISH. | reuter's telegrams. 1 London, 3rd September. News is to hand from Limerick that a serions eviction riot took place to-day between the polioe and the people. The police succeeded in dispersing the riotera, of whom fifteen were severely wounded in the encounter which took place. The Times to-day publishes a telegram from India stating that newa has been received from Candahar that Ayoub Khan has proclaimed his intention of not proceeding with any further hostile action against the Ameer, and that ho has invited recruits for a " Jehad," or holy war, against the English in Afghanistan. The proclamation is, however, believed by the Timeß* correspondent to be a ruse on the part of Ayoub to obtain arms.
