SHOCKING CHARGE AGAINST A HUSBAND.
DEATH OF A WIFE THROUGH ILL* TREATMENT (UNITID PBESB ASSOCIATION.! O amaru, 18th August. A case of brutal ill-treatment oP a wife has just come to light here. Briefly stated, tho facts are these : — On tho 3rd instant the unfortunate woman, whoso name v Isabel!) Augustus, wife of a Swede, named Charles Augustus, a laboring man, wa* onfiroc'. Augustus, for reasons which cainot ba stated, ill-treated her for several days, refusing to permit her to call in a doctor, or to allow her any assistance This conduct, coupl«d with threats upon her life, was continued until Tuesday last, when the case of the unfortunate woman became known, and she was removed to the hospital. She was ' then found to be in a critical condition. An information was at onco laid against Augustas, and he was arrested yesterday on a charge of assault. As serious doubts were entertained of the woman's recovery, her depositions were taken at the hospital last evening, and they disclosed a course of brutal ill-treatment. Later. Mra. Augustus has sinca died. Her case has caused great excitement.
