THE PARIHAKA MEETING. TE WHITI AND THE TERMINATION OF EUROPEAN SUPREMACY.
I UNITED FBSSB ASSOCIATION]. New Plymouth, 18th August. The Herald correspondent, at Pungarehu, telegraphs to-day that there wa3 no meeting at Parihaka yesterday on account of the wet weather and a gale of wind blowing. At the meeting to-day there were about 3000 natives present. A great tangi wa3 held over the death of Nukn, brother of Titokowarn. The pnrport of Te Whiti'a speech was to encourage the young Maoria to fence and cultivate land, and to annoy the Europeans within bounds, so filling the young hearers with pluck. He quoted the Bible, mentioning a flood and fire that, according to Scripture, in old days wasted the kind for seven years. Te Whiti said the Government's power will cease within seven months. Two or three months have elapse J, thus leaving five more for European supremacy to fall in.
