PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE.
The following report of this committee will be presented at the next meeting of the City Council:— lhe committee beg to report — (I) That it is not considered necessary to do anything to the Nairn-street drain at present. (2) 'I hat the application of the Wellington v oll°ge matter for fire-hose and reel cannot be acceded to. (3) That Messrs. Brown and Farrell's application for a return of their deposit, £25, cannot be accoeded to. (1) That the associated insurance companies decline to grant any subsidy towards the maintenance of the Fire Brigade. The committee beg to recommend— (l) i hat tha Hon. John Johnston be served with notice to fence in his property in Hopper-street. (2) That the following tenders fjr the Market Mali Eeaerve section* be accepted :— Samuel Giltner, section 2, .£ls 103 pir annum; do, section 3, £V) per annum; do, section 4, £2.2 10s per annum ; Michael Bohan, aection 5, .£lB 15 j per annum ; Jas. H. Hntchens, section 13, .£l2 per annum. (3) lhat the Kilbirnie Eoad Board be paid the £ for £ subsidy for the ma ; ntenance of Evans Bay road. (4) 1 hat Councillors Allen and Logan be authorised to settle Mr. J. Cud by' b claim on account of tho Wainui pipe track. (5) I hat the spare fin pipes, for which application has been zraie by several parties, ba sold for £10 per ton to t h e party securing the tender for which the pi, es are required. (6) That tho amount of verdict and coßtd in the case of Mahor v. Corporation be paid. (7) Tliat Messrs. W. Daw son & Co. be authorised to obtain a pnuCuing and shearing ma bine, a drilling michine, and a fccrewiug and tapping machine in terms of ibdr letter, for use at the Corporation ysr>is (8) 1 hat uo action be takea by the Council in the matter i>f the dispute between the expressmen and the cabmen. (9) That account* as under be passed for payment -Wharf account, J620 17b 3d; general acojunt, £3)3 U Bd.
