The objects of the Company are to purchase Steamers, suitable For use in the Wellington Harbour ; to establish direct communication between Wellington, Petoni, and Lowry Bay ; and to make daily trips round the harbour. It is intended to have constructed tho* roughly first-class steamers with a high speed, to have elaborately fitted- np saloons, ¦with every convenience : open, clear decks, with canvas awning over, and to carry from 200 to 250 passengers. Estimates have been c vrefully prepared by practical gentlemen of the cost and annual working expenses of such steamers, also an estimate of the minimum returns, Ehowing a large profit to shareholders. The promoters feel confident that th<? undertaking will speedily develop into an extensive company. The many advantages thi3 harbour has over other places where these steamboat companies have been such a success, is sufficient guarantee that a similar undertaking mnst pay well here. We have a large number ©f residents residing in the city and suburbs who will certainly patronise and support such a desirable undertaking, especially as it will bring within their reach the means of spending a thoroughly enjoyable day, and that, too, at very little expense. The fares both for ordinary traffic and pleasure excursions, will be exceedingly small, and such as will induce everyone to travel by the steamers. Petoni, where it is proposed to erect a substantial wharf, is now a rapidly rising township, and has already a large population. Land there is eminently adapted for building sites and manufactories. The beach at Petoni is undoubtedly one of] the finest in the colony, and during the summer months would attract daily a large number of visitors. Lowry Bay is well known too for its suitableness for pleasure excursions and picnics. The shares have been fixed at such a small figure, that everyone has an opportunity of taking an interest in thi3 desirable undertaking. It is proposed to call up only 2a per share on application, 2s per share on allotment, and the balance by calls of 2s each, at intervals of not less than two months. Applications for shares will be received by the various member* of the Committee; at the offices of the Secretary, Mr D. W. Bennett, Lambton Quay ; and at the Bank of New Zealand and its various branches. The share list will close on the 20th August, 1881. This Company is formed with the object of preparing, by the refrigerating or other process, meat, butter, cheese, &c, &c. ; and of undertaking the export and. sale thereof. Preliminary shipments are proposed to be sent by vessels having the freezing appliances on board, thus leaving ample time tor the selection of most improved shore freezing machinery, and fixing site or sites most conducive to the interests represented by the promoters It is intended that the Company shall have power either to purchase or ship on owners' account, as may be found desirable. The promoters confidently rely on the assistance of all in carri ing out what mnst not only be a profitable undertaking to shareholders, but also have an immense effect on the prosperity of the whole colony, by a large increase in the market value of several of its main products. As time is of the greatest importance, the Promoters hope no unnecessary delay will occur in taking up the shares, so that the Company can be registered and begin operations at once. 600 shares are already applied for.
