RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
This Day. (Before Dr. Diver and Mr. G. S. Cooper, J.P.'s.) FRACAS WITH THE POLICE IN MANNERSSTREET. John Donovan was charged with using obscene language in Manners-street last night. The same defendant, together with Henry Trant, alias Jones, and Thomas Kelly, was charged with assaulting Constable Patrick Leahy in the execution of his duty, at the same time and place ; while Kefly was further charged with damaging Constable Leahy's uniform to the extent of 7s. Mr. Gordon Allan appeared for the defence. It appeared the constable was in the act of arresting Donovan in Mannersstreet, shortly before 12 o'clock last night on a charge of making use of obscene exclamations, when Donovan resisted, and assaulted the peace officer. Two of his comrades — Trant and Kelly — rushed to the rescue and tried to effeot their companion's release, upon which constable Leahy blew his whistle, and was present'y loinforcsd by Constables Shea and Ironside. Owing to the late hour at which the occurrence took place, the police authorities applied for an adjournment of the case, to enable them to procure the testimony of soveral citizens who witnessed the affair. The defendants, who are sailors, were accordingly remanded till Monday, bail bain? allowed in their own recognisances of .£lO and one surety each for a Bimilar amount. BELLA GARRISON. This unfortunate young woman again made her appearance before the Bench, this time on a charge of having stolen, on the Bth instant, from Jenny Leslie, dressmaker, of Cambridge ttoad, various articles of wearing apparel and a cash-box, containing foreign coins, of the total value of £2 Is. 'llie prieoner was convicted, and sentenced to a month's hard labor.
