DEATH OF LORD "HATHERLEY AND GENERAL WADDY.
AN ITALIAN LOAN FOR THIRTY MILLIONS. BOMBARDMENT OF SFAX BY THE FRENCH. DETERMINED RESISTANCE OF THE ARABS. IBEUTEB'S TKLKGRAMB.I London, 9th July. The deaths are announced of the Right Hon. W. P. Wood, Baron Hatherley, formerly Lord Chancellor of Great Britain, and of General Sir Richard Waddy, K.C.B. Per Merchant Shipping and Underwriters' Association : —Arrived — Ships Can idate (18th March), and Marlborough (25th April), both from Lyttelton. Rome, 9th July. The loan which Messrs. Baring Bros, and J. and C. Hambro and Co. have engaged to float on behalf of the Italian Government is for .£30,000,000, bearing interest at 5 per cent. PABIB,9th July. Intelligence has been reoeived from Tunis reporting that the French fleet before Sfax it stdl engaged in shelling the town. An attempt was made to-day to land a storming party under cover of the guns of the ships. The Arabs, however, who were in strong force, opened a heavy fire upon the boats, and the troopa failed to effect a landing.
