THE S.S. WAKATIPU IN QUARANTINE.

« The Wakatipu's mails were fumigated on the Quarantine Island Jaafc night, and landed this morning in he steam-launch Te Aro. 1 he manager of the Union Company applied for permission to land the perishable part of the cargo in lighters, with due precautions against personal communication with those on board the ship. The Board of Health met this morning, and, after considering the application, decided that it could not be enter- • tamed, but the quarantine regulations mnst be fully complied with. The company made a further representation this afternoon, that a large proportion of the cargo consisted of fruit, and would be destroyed either by fumigation or being kept stored for a week, and urged a reconsideration of the matter. The result of this furthar application has not transpired. A growing industry — Farming.
