.TO THE EDITOR OP THE EVENING POST. OIR — In your issue of to-day Mr. Fisher |~* announces that be got from me a "favorable" offer under peculiar circumstances, within the four walls of my office, to induce him to withdraw. Ihe facts aTe these : The day after I had announced my intention of contesting the seat, Mr. Fisher, who had cut me dead ever since the last election, walked into my office and made to mo variouß offers, if I would withdraw. Hia conduct told me that he knew he had to fight a losing battle. I need hardly say that all through the interview, I was most guarded. I knew Mr. Fisher so well that I dreaded lest any accidental expression of mine should be hoisted to do me harm. I am a novice in politics, or I should not have allowed Mr. Fisher to walk unasked into my room to have a private interview, for it then comes to a question of one man's word against that of another. Should such an occasion ever again arise, Mr. Fisher shall not entrap me into a private interview. In future I ! -shall' aot like the wise Governor of this oolony who wished to have the views of his Ministers in writing, so that it should never be a question of the credibility of mere spoken words against spoken words. I will merely add, whatever Mr. Fisher may say to ' the contrary, that his statements aro baso\\etß innuendoes. Yowb faithfully, _** A. K. NEWMAN. 20th Jnne. BASIN RESERVE TRUST.
