E. Grant-Duff, Under-Seore-tary of State for the Colonies, in reply to a question, promised that tho Government would take into consideration the question of taking steps to bring about an agreement between the Powers, iv order to counteract kidnapping and slavery in the Pacific. Communications having boen made to tho British Government by tho Boers who remained loyal during tho recent war, asking for some compensation in conseqnenoe of the withdrawal of British rule from the Transvaal, tho Right Hon. W. E. Gladstone has addressed a latter in reply, in which he stitos the Government do not consider the petitioners are entitled to any indemnification under the circumstances named.
