A telegram to tho Government states that Lord Hart^ngton, Secretary of State for India, declines to confirm the arrangement detaining the Indian mail one day at Galle on account of the Australian mail 3. The Colonial Office is, however, endeavoring to maintain Mr. fc'awcett's decision. The curious breach of promise oasa, Brooks v. Smith (formerly of Auckland),
terminated on the 2nd inst., with a verdict of .£2OO for the plaintiff. Mr. Joseph Clark has given a donation of .£SOOO towards Trinity College, which it is not unlikely will be increased to tho £30,000 required to complete tho original scheme. Tho Navigation Board has suspended tho certificate of Captain Dowling, of the Mirzapore, for six months, for neglecting to take means to save a man's life on the voyage from Liverpool to Melbourne. Sydney, Bth June. Archbishop Steins, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland is seriously ill. Mr. Todd has written a letter wherein he expresses belief that tho comet now visible is identical with the comet of 1861.
