PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE.

The Public Works Committee will present the following report to the City Council tomorrow evening :—: — " The committee beg to report— (l( That a sub-committee has taken into consideration the question of the amount to be charged for the water supplied to tho various Government buildings, and has reported on the same, and the report is recommended for adoption by the Council. (2) That statements of receipts and expenditure of the Wellington City Tramways Company, up to 31st October, 1880, have been received in accordance with the agreement, but as yet no profits therefrom have accrued to the Corporation. (3) That it is considered advisable for the City Surveyor to arrange with the contractor for tho Wainuiomata tunnel to line the whole tunnel at a reduced schedule price, special deductions to be made should the lining be found unnecessary the whole way through. (4) That Messra. Kelleher and Dealy have applied to be relieved of their pipe-laying contract, but the committee cannot recommend that the request be acceded to. The committee beg further to recommend — (5) That the purchase money (JJI6OIO of the land bought from the Gas Company be paid, with interest, in terms of the agreement, and that possession be at once taken of the hind for the extension of the street. (6) That tho Planting Committee have authority to purchase trees to replace those which have died daring the past year in the various Plantation Reserves. (7) That the Basin Reserve be laid out as a pleasure park and garden, to be planted with trees, shrubs, and flowers, as a place of general recreation for the use of the citizens, the privileges of cricket and football playing being restricted to the Newtown Park. (S) That accounts amounting to .£246 193 3d be passed for payment."
