VICARIOUS PUNISHMENT.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING POST. Sir — How much longer will public opinion submit to be outraged by the preaching of such doctrine as that belched forth by the Rev. Mr. Sidey ? This rev. gentleman recognises a judgment from Heaven upon the Union Company for Sabbath-breaking — in what way ? Not in the punishment of tho--company, for according to report they are fully insured, but in the death of some 130 innocent persons, and thereby entailing grief and misery to some dozens of women and scores of children. The rev. gentleman no doubt believes in vicar.ous puuishment, and probably he may think that tho three Wes- ! leyan ministers who perished with the other nnfortunate passenger! s of the Tararua expiated by their death the Bins of the company. I am, &c, C.W. Wellington, 10th May.
