[UNITXD PEISB ASSOCIATION.] Intbbcabgill, Ist May. A largely attended meeting of citizens was held this (Sunday) afternoon in the readingroom of the Athenaeum to consider what might be done by the people of InveroargHl in the matter of the Tararua disaster. His Worship the Mayor presided. Mr. Wade, solicitor, moved the appointment of a committee to proceed to the scene of the wreck with authority to take suoh stepi as they might deom necessary or desirable to relieve the sufferers. A committee of sixteen volunteers was appointed accordingly-. Another committe of six was formed on the notion of Mr. Kingsland, with the Mayor at its head, for tha purpose of raising auoh funds as might be required, and in order that there might be some properly constituted authority for the members of the first committee and others to communicate with' as occasion required. The tone of the meeting was one of great sympathy with thoae who have Buffered by the calamity, and general regret was expressed that the erroneous natnre of the first telegram from Wyndham, which announced that the passengers had all been landed, had lulled public apprehensions, and prevented prompt action.
