LXTMITBD PBB88 ASSOCIATION.] Taueanga, 29th April. The steamer Taupo has just started for Auckland, being towed by the Staffa. The steamer Wellington will pick her up on her way , and she will be met by the steamer Iona at Cape Colville to render any assistance necessary. The contractors have been bucoeasful in stopping the leaks, and it is hoped she will arrive safely. Auckland, This Day. The Bteamer Taupo, when being towed by the Wellington to Auckland, filled and sank seventeen miles outside Tauranga. A stiff' breeze was blowing at the time. It is supposed that some of the gear below gay away; The men on board had barely time to escape, and lost everything. The vessel was cased in wooden sheathing, which was secured by chains, and these are believed to have given way.
