AUSTRALIAN MUTUAL PROVIDENT SOCIETY. - ? Report presented to the Thirty-second Annual Meeting of the Members, held at the Society's new head offioe, Sydney, on Wednesday, the 27th day of April, 1881, at two o'cleok p.m. Your direotors have the satisfaction of reporting that the Society continues to transact an amount of new business unsurpassed by that of any other Life Assurance Institution in the British Empire, and that the number of polioies issued and amount assured during the year exoeed that of any previous year in the history of the Society. During the twelve months ending 31st December, 1880, there have been reoeived 9,623 proposals for sums amounting to £3,308,258 Of whioh 3,072 were declined, withdrawn, or not completed, amounting to 1,127,000 Leaving 6,551 proposals accepted and completed, assuring ... 2,181,258 This business includes 291 non-partioipat-inpr policies, aasnring £67,450. Eighteen endowment assurances have also matured, amounting to £9,277 7s lOd, including £2,627 7a lOd for bonus additions. The Accumulated Fund now stands at £3,379,510 10s 7d, showing on increase of £445,713 3s sd, the balance of receipts over disbursements during the year. ' The new head office . was opened for business on the Ist July last, and the additional accommodation afforded has secured the comfort of the staff and furnished increased facilities for effective supervision and for the transaction of the Society's augmenting business. Sites for branch offices have been purohased during the year in Adelaide and Hobart, so that arrangements will shortly be concluded for conducting the business of all the branches in premises the property of the Society. The direotors who retire at the annual meeting are the Hon. John Smith, C.M.G., M.L.C., and Robert Saddington, Esq., one of whom only is eligible for re-election. The only members who have given notice of their intention to be candidates are the Hon. John Smith, C.M.G., M.L.C., and George Alexander Murray, Esq. Mr. J, D. Milne, the senior Auditor, retires in terms of By-law X., and it will devolve upon the meeting to elect his puocessor. Jobn Smith, Chairman.
