THE ARRIVAL OF LADY GORDON.

♦■ ■ Owing to the late hour at which the Elinemoa arrived yesterday afternoon we irere only able very briefly to refer to the reception accorded to Lady Gordon. As soon as the steamer appeared ronnd Halsivell Point the public begun to flock to the 3nd of the Queen's Wharf, and the Wellngkon Guards, under Lieut. Blundell, were marched up to form a guard of honor. Considering the. short notice the latter had, their turn-out was very creditable, upwards of SO members (including the band) being present. A contingent of Armed Constabulary was also present under Sub[nspector Coleman. Among those present •n the wharf were the Hons. John Hall, T. Dick, B. Oliver, and W. W. Johnston, Yen. Archdeacon Stock, Rev. B. W. Harvey, Hon. C. J. Pharazyn, M L.C., Hon. J. Martin, M.L.C , his Worship the Mayor, several City Councillors, and a number of ladies and leading citizens. When the Hinemoa was made fast, the members of the Ministry, Messrß. Dick, Hall, and Johns-ton, being*" accompanied by their wives, went on board, and were introduced to Lady Gordon. Thia formality over, the vice-roaral party, comprising his Excellency and Lady Gordon, the two Misses Gordon, and Miss Hamilton Gorddfc. (the Governor's niece), Captair. Knollya (A.D.C. to his Excellency), ano several others came ashore, and were received by his Worship the Mayor, whose daughter, Miss Mary Hutchison, presented Lady Gordon with a bonqnet of white roses intertwined with forget-me-not and mignonette. As the partj moved towards the carriage, the Guards presented arms, the band played the Nationa' Anthem, and the people assembled gavt three hearty cheers for f.ady Gordon. Whei the carriages passed the Crownthorpe, th< Bailors gave three lusty cheers on their owi account. On leaving the wharf, the partj were driven along Lambton Quay to Govern ment House.
