ARREST OF WHITE LAW.

About half-past 2 o'olock this afternoon, Mr. John Henry Whitoiaw, the Superintendent of the Mount Viow Lunatic Asylum, was arrested, at tho instance of the Government, on a charge of having ill-treated expationt Wo. H' ln tosh, by taking him aoross an exposed yard, after being stripped, on a cold midwinter's night, placing him in a confined shower-bath, and keeping him under a continuous shower of "oold water for tan minutes or thereabouts, withontany possible escape. 'Up to 8 p.m. Whitelfw had not succeeded in obtaining bail, preg*tf*tory to hia appearanoe at the Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday morning. Tho warrant is signed by Colonel Reader, and the date of the alleged offence is May Ist, 1878. Whitoiaw waft arrested by Chief Detective Brown. Although he had not obtained bail up to the hour of our going to press, he was vory sanguino that he would bo able to do so in the ooureo of Ins than an hour. *
