FIRE IN ASHBURTON. [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Ashburton. 11th April.

A house, the property of Walter Laurie, Seafield, was totally destroyed by fire yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Laurie were at Springston, the rest of the family were at church. Nothing was saved, and £100 in notes were destroyed. There was an insurance in tho Lancashire and London on the house of £200; furniture, £100. A store adjoining the residence was with difficu'ty saved. This Dat. The dwelling-house of W. Lawrio. at Seafield, was burnt on Sunday during morning service. The congregation gave all assistance, and prevented the adjacent store being destroyed. Insurance — £300, London and Lancashire Office. A sum of £100 was burned in the house; it was to have been banked to-day. No one was in at the time. The cause is believed to be sparks from the kitchen chimney.
