SIEGE OF THE CITY. London. 31st March.
The Bank of South Australia has declared a dividend of 5 per cent, for the half-year ended 31st December last, and carries forward .£4OOO to reserve. A bulletin issued this morning states that Lord Beaconsfield passed a quieter night, and is no worse since the relapse set in. Hopes are still entertained of his lordship's recovery. The Court has dismissed Mr. Bradlaugh's appeal against the d.sallowanoe of his demurrer in the action, Clarke v. Bradlaugh, to recover penalties from the latter for Bitting and voting in the House of Commons without first taking the oath. It is generally expected in European political circles that Greece will acquiesce in tho proposal made by Turkey and approved by the Powers for the settlement of the frantier question. Calcutta, 31st March. Intelligence has been received from Afghanistan that a large body of Horatees and Candaharis have risen in rebellion against Ayoub Khan at Herat, and are besieging the city.
