♦ [fbom oob own correspondent. I , 17th Maroh. To-day has been a rod-lettor day for Mas tor ton. Tho orickot match betwoon tho Wellington and Mastorton members of the Dixon family was tho chief point of attraction during tho day, and tho ball at the Town Hall, in honor of St. Patrick's Day, in tho evening. On arrival of tho early train from town, the Wellington members of tho Dixon family wore at onoe conveyed in coaches to the cricket ground, and after refreshments, provided by Mr. Elkins, of the Clnb Hotel, had boon partaken of, the Masterton team went to the wiokets. On the whole, tho play was vory creditable, when it is takon into consideration that the match was hurriedly arranged, and that there was little time available for practice by the country rolatives of tho Wellington team. Mr. E. Dixon acted as umpire ior the Wellington men, and Mr. Salmon for tho Masterton team. The Masterton team, after a gallant stand, made a score of 68. The Wellington men then went in, and succeeded in making a total of 79, Master Frank Dixon contributing no fewor than 36 runs. The Masterton mon then commenced thoir second innings, and scored 42, giving them a total of 110. Tho Wellington team then commenced thoir second innings, and after tho loss of ono wicket, scored 32, thus winning with 10 wickets to spare. Tho weather was as fino as oould be desired, and all present appeared to enjoy themsolvos thoroughly. At 7.30 the combined teams, with a few friends, sit down to an excellent dinner at tho Club Hotel. The usual toasts were duly proposed and responded to, expressions of good will being freely exohanged. The repast was a most oreditablo one, and reflected the highest oredit upon Mr. Elkins, the proprietor of the Club Hotel. A challenge has been recoivod and accepted by the Masterton blacksmiths and coaoh builders to play a cricket matoh on Good Friday against the blacksmiths and coach bnilders of Wellington.
