WELLINGTON AMATEUR DRAMATIC
The Wellington Amateur Dramatic Club are to be congratulated on the success of their perfprmanotf At the Theatre Royal last night. Their' preVidtis successes, and the fact that the entertainment was for the benefit of, the sufferers by the Akatarawa Bridge and Te Aro fire disasters was sufficient to ensure a full house. The dress circle was well filled with leading citizens, fVolunteors, *0., and the lower parts of the honse presented an appearance which must have been very encouraging to the performers. The programme was a wellarranged one. presenting a variety which could scarcely fail to please, and the manner in which it was carried out from beginning to end met with the hearty approval of the entire audience. The first part consisted of comic and senti- ; mental songs and a sketch, entitled "The Haunted Honse," all of which wereadmirably given. The oluh's orohestra followed with the overture to " Lett Cloches de Corneville," performed for the first time in Wellington ; and following upon this came a brilliant little comedietta entitled " Unole's Will," in which Mdlle. Murielle and two leading members of the club sustained the three characters. The play iB full of fun and smart repartee, and the performers succeeded in keeping the audience in the .bjufco^humors throughout. Master A. Hilji gave a cornet solo in. » most effective mariner, and the entertainment was brought to a successful termination by the performance of the burlesque, " The Very Witty Diggings" — a local production which has previously made ra '" hit" on the Wellington stage. The evening's takings at the doors should add materially to the funds in aid of which the performance was given.
