WHARFINGERS OR " WHARF RATS?"

♦ TO THI BDITOB OF THI XVSNIKQ FOST. Sir — At St. John's Church last evening I had the pleasure of listening to the preaching of the Eev. J. Boot, of Greymonth. In reading and explaining Acts XVII., sth verse, I fancy he made a mistake in classing wharfingers with " certain lewd fellows " who assaulted Paul at the house of one Jason. Mr. Hoot said " You know the kind of people who frequent wharves in seaport towns, loafers, wharfingers, bargees, &c " Surely Mr. Boot did not wish to to cast a slnr upon wharfingers. I have always found them eminently respectable. Perhaps Mr. 800 t meant (what we term in the colonies) " wharf rats." I am, &c., Champliau. 14th March.
