THE OPERA.
Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera, "H.M.S. Pinafore, " was produced last 'evening by the Simonsen Company to a fair houSe.' We cannot award unqualified praise to the performance as a whole. The opera ¦ does not suit the styl.e of the company, and has been much better done by amateurs in this city. Signor Riccardi, as a matter of course, carried off all the honors in his great part, Sir Joseph Porter, receiving quite an ovation when he made his entrance, and being enthusiastically encored for his song, " The Ruler of the Queen's Navee," a similar compliment being paid to the " Bell" trio, in which Miss Simonsen and Mr. Cram ably assisted. Miss Simonsen acquitted herself very' creditably as Josephine, but Miss Leonora was suffering from indisposition, which spoiled her representation of Butter, cup; and all the others were more or less unsatisfactory,-owing to the nnsuitableness of their parts. We cannot conscientiously characterise the performance as a success. " H.M.S. Pinafore" will be repeated to-night and to-morrow; on Thursday Madame Simonsen will take her benefit in " Lucia," the title rdle being her most celebrated part.
