The third day's racing of the V.X.C. Autumn Meeting took place this afternoon, at Flemington. The Newmarket Handicap, three-quarters of a mile, was won by Aspen easily in lmin. 16iaec. ; Waterford was Becond, and Terrific third. Twenty-seven horses started, and it was a very pretty race. The Town Plate was won by Grand Flaneur, with Sweetmeat second, and Progress third. Sidney, sth March. The cricket match between the Australian team and a Combined Eleven of New South Wales and Victoria was resumed to-day. The Australians in their first innings were all disposed of for 155, being 42 runs less than the total of their opponents' first innings. Murdoch, with 65, and Blackham, with 36, both bowled out, were the highest scorers for the Australians. The Combined Team went to the wickets for their second innings, but play was stopped by the inclemency of the weather when they had put together 74 runs for two wickets. Masßie was bowled for 50. There was a large attendance at the match. This Dat. Arrived— Wakatipu, from Wellington, yesterday. Authentic information has been received here from the Mount Poole goldfield in the
Grey Ranges. Five hundred men aro there, and perfect order prevails, bnt Chinese have been denied access to the ground. The average yield up to the present has been an ounce and a half per load. It is stated that the field is considered nntenable unless rain falls, as water is very short. Only twenty of the miners are known to be on gold. It is understood that Government has resolved to strongly resist at the present time Mr. Murray Smith's proposal for a conference on tha Reform Bill. Adelaide, sth March. Earl Kimberley, Secretary of State for tha Colonies, has telegraphed to the Governor declining, with thanks, the offer made by a number of volunteers of this city_ to proceed to the Cape for service against the Boers.
