THE REFRESHMENT ROOMS AT KAITOKE. TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING POST.

Sir — Is it possible that the Eailway Department seriously contemplate removing the refreshment rooms from Kaitoke to the Upper Hutt? If so, I submit they will commit (to say the least of it) a great error of judgment, for a greater convenience to the travelling public on the Wairarapa line than those rooms are we could not have. I am a frequent traveller along that and have experienced the benefit of a snack of refreshment at Kaiitoke after a Hurried' breakfast before starting from the Wairarapa, and undergoing the bracing atmosphere of the Bimntaka hill. Then, again, on the return trip, we reach Kaitoke about 5.30 p m., when we ' find a cup of tea very acceptable after our day's labours, as is proved by the rush to the rooms that takes place for that article immediately after the arrival of the evening train. A refreshment^ stall on teetotal principles has been already tried at tie tipper Hutt, and has proved a failure, simply because it did not suit the public convenience ; and for those that are bibulously inclined there is plenty of. time for them to go to the pnblic-nouse and get a drink whil<? the engine is watering. There are other reasons I might point out, Bhowing that it is imperative on the department to retain these rooms, as in the case of slips occurring on the road and so forth, but I fear to trespass on your space any further, lam, &c, J.C.
