THE FIRE AT GREYTOWN. [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Greytown, 22nd February.
Messrs. Fabian Brothers' large store was burned to the ground last night. No othor buildings were in close proximity, or they must have been destroyed. The first alarm was about 12 o'clock, but no one was sleeping on the premises, and the origin of the fire is a mystery. Nothing was saved. The store was very heavily stocked, aMQ the-fire_ must have been smouldering some tirfle, as, when 'the alarm was given, tho premises were iull of 'smoke, and all attempt*' *t saving anything wqre futile. Witton's blacksmith's shop on the other side of the road was also burned down. Insurances on Fabians' building— Victoria, .£500; New Zealand, Stock—Northern, J51000 ; London. Liverpool and Globe, .£SOO ;¦ Viotoria, £1000, of which £500 is insured in the South British, and £250 in the Union. Witton is insured for £70, but in what office is unknown.
