Manawatu sails for Wellington at 1 o'clook this afternoon. Nhlbon. 22nd February. Arrived, noon— Hawea, from Picton. THE BASQUE MERCIA. IN A HEAVY GALE. TWO MKN DBOWNED. Napieb. 2 1st February The barque Mercia, under chartor to the N.Z. BbippiDg Company, arrived from London today. The captain reports that on the 20th Nov., after a heavy gale, two men fell overboard and were drowned, though the vessel put about and every effort was made to save them. In the gale the main top-gallant mast was lost, and other damage received. The Meroia waa 106 days out She bringß 1200 tonß of cargo for Napier, and 200 for Timaro. The steamer Kiwi, from Napier and East Coast stations, arrived in harbor at II o'clock last night. 'She leaves again this afternoon for Oastlepoint, Napier and Giaborne. The B.s. Jane Douglas arrived at 5 this morning from Foxton, and leaves for Eaikoura and iiy ttelton this evening. The s.B. Wakatu arrived from Nelson at 9 o'clock this morning. She leaves for Wanganui and Patea this evening. The Kennedy, from West Coast and Nelson, arrived alongside the wharf at 8 SO this morning. She leaves for Nelßon and West Coaafc at 9 tomorrow night. Ibe brigautine Endeavour left Oamara on Saturday last, and arrived hare at 10 o'clook last night The schooner Zior arrived in harbor at 3 p m. yesterday from Oamaru, which port she left on Wednesday last The steamers Huia for Wanganui, Mohakafor Blenheim, Samson for Wanganui, Waitara and Manukau, and Star of the South for the West Coast, Bailed last evening. The two first named ■hould return to Wellington to-morrow. The as. Go-Ahead leaves for Caatlepoint and Napier at 6 o'clock this evening The barque Malay, Irom Wellington, arrived at Newcastle on t&e 14th of February. The s s. Graf ton, for Nelson and West Uoast, galls at 9 o'olock to-night. The s.B. Stormbird, for Foxton, sails this evening. The s s Hawea arrives from NelEon and Pioton to-morrow morning, ai<d leaves in the afternoon toe the South. The steamer Penguin will arrive from Port Chalmers and Lyttelton to-morrow, and on Friday loaves for Picton and Nelson. The bb. Murray arrives 'here on ' Thursday from West Coast, Nelson and Picton. She sails again same day for Nelson and West Cob at. The repairs to the steamer Charles 'Edward hav>ng been completed at Nelson yesterday, she leaves there for West Coast ports to-day. , As the steamers Patea from Patea, and Manawatu from Wanganui. did not g t out yesterday as expooted. they cannot arrive here before to-mor ow morning. ARRIVAL OF THE BARQUO MABEL, FEOM NEW YOttK. As we anticipated yesterday, this vessel arrived in harbor at 7 o'olock this morniug from New Yo'-k via Port Obalmeis. one lelt Port Chalmers on Saturday last, and baa had variable weather up the coast. Pilot Holmes boarded her this morning and brought her into port. The Mabel ia an Amerioan barque, of 782 tons register, under command of Captain Snow. After discharging her Wellington cargo sb e proceeds to Lytteltcn, for which port she has about 300 tons. Messrs. Tnrnbull & Co. are •gents for her here.
