THIS DAY'S PROCEEDINGS.

This morning the council met at 9 o'clock. All the representatives were present. A telegram was read from Bro. Shirriffs, of the Kaikoura Tenfc^ statin? that he was unable to leave in time for the meeting. Regret was expressed at the unavoidable absence of

a brother of go much experience. Bro. M'lntyre took tho obligation as proxy for Bro. Shirriffs. The report of tho Finance Committee was read. The expenses in connection -with the meeting were lighter than usual, amounting to &H 15a 3d. The total estimated expenditure for the year, including the printing of the new district laws, amounted to J2204. The favorable state of the finances warranted a decrease in the levies, whioh were recommended to stand at Is 6sd per member per quarter, being contingent fond Is 4d, tent relief fond ljd, benevolent- fund Id. The report was adopted. It was resolved to present a small token to Bro. Harding, who nas fanrnished the official report annually since 1876, in recognition of his services as reporter. The committee appointed to consider the subject of a photograph of the representatives brought up their report, which was oonBidered. It was resolved to have the photograph taken by Mr. Clark. It was moved by Bro. Johnson, that for the better working of the district where there is more than one tent in a district, the tents may be formed into a sub-district, presided over by a president, whose duty it will be (1) to visit tents in his distriot as frequently as possible ; (2) to take measures in concert with the tents for extending the principles of Bechabitiam, by promoting intercourse and cooperation among the brotherhood, and f"r diffusing the principles of temperance by all suitable means ; and (3) to assist the distriot officers in the working of the Order when required, and report quarterly to the district officers the condition and prospects of each tent in hi« distriot. A long and interesting discussion ensued, in which nearly all the representatives took part, and the motion was ultimately carried on .a very close division. [Left sitting.]
