» FUETHEE EXHIBITION AWABDS. ESCAPE OF NEW CALEDONIAN CONVICTS. [bkutbb'b telegbams.'l Melboubnk, 21st February. The Australian telegraph land lines are interrupted. The following farther Exhibition awards have been announced : — Second order of merit— B. Petersen and Co., Christchurch, for diver jug and cup ; John Alves, Dunedin, for model of patent aerial tramway. Third order of merit— Marcus Sandstein, Christchurch, silver epergne ; Duschell, Jannay, and Co., Christchurch, paper pulp, &c, from •New Zealand flax. Filth order of merit — John B. Stansell, Christchurch, half stuff and papier mach£, &c, from New Zealand flax. Honorably mentioned— Eeid and Duncan, civil engineers, Dunedin, plan of wire rope railway. This Day. Arrived — P. and O. Company's steamship Brindisi, with the inward Suez mail. Owing to a misunderstanding, Swan, of New Zealand, and Baker have retired from the six days' walking contest, which is now proceeding. Brisbane, This Day. Five escapees from. New Caledonia have landed on Stradbrooke Island, Moreton Bay, in a nude state, and nearly starving. Their immediate arrest has been ordered by the authorities.
