*. THE WANGANUI MATCH. I UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wanganui, 12th February Play was resumed at noon, the Australians continuing their second innings. Spofforth and M'Donnell went first to the wickets, the score from the previous day standing at 2 wickets down for 18 runs. Robinson and Fulton opened the bowling, and m the second over the former sent down a shooter, which took M'Donnell'B middle stump, this being the first wicket clean bowled. The champion bat, Murdoch, then took his place, and placed one to his credit, when Spofforth was well caught at loner square-leg by Miller, off Fulton, having scored 8 Slight then joined Murdoch, but, after a short innings, was caught by Jacomb off the first ball delivered by Bayley, who had taken Robinson's place. Jarvis, who followed, unluckily got an ugly crack in the face from the second ball bowled to him by Bayley. He was ultimately caught at long*slip off M'Gregor by Wilson. Murdoch and Alexander were abo caught out. The innings closed at 2 p.m. for 83, leaving the local twenty-two 85 to get to win. Alter luncheon the Australians took the field, Spofforth opening the bowling to Lacey, and Sherwell occupying the other wicket. In this innings Jarvia was again unlucky, getting a nasty knock from a ball delivered by Palmer. When the score had reached 6 for 07, the excitement was intense, as the probability of Wanganui scoring a victory became apparent, and the exoitement culminated as the score went up to 11 for 81, and Riddiford cut his second ball into the slips for two, and one more only was wanted to tie. A snick in the slips brought the scene to a tie, amidst a round of cheers, and the winning hit was made by Bayley by a crack to square-leg, and the match was won by 10 wickets.
