JESUITS v. Y.M.C.A.
TO THC SDITOB 07 TBS BVININO POST. Sib— Allow to answer briefly the letter of " Englishman," whioh appeared in yonr iaane of Saturday. Ist. The member of the V.M.C.A. at present serving a term of four years' penal servitude in Cnristohuroh is not, and never was, a member of the Order of the Jesnits. The Jesnits never disguise themselves : there is no necessity for their so doing. 2nd. The College of Maynooth never was given aa a grant to the Order of Jesuits by the English Government, and no member of that order ever held a professor's ohair within ita hall. 3rd. The Jesuits did not " buy the Presbyterian manse" at Auckland. There is not a single Jesuit there, if we may ezoept Dr. Steins,, who has been a Jesuit, but practically, and in fact, is not one now, since he wears the mitre. " Englishman " would aa well, Mr. Editor, to take note of your editorial, and in future to study and know something of facts before he rushes into print. What is a Jesuit? A man who knows what he writes and Bpeaks about; "Englishman," quite the reverse. lam &c, Irishman.
