+. _ I UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. | Melbourne, 26th Januar. H.M.S. Miranda, the new addition to the Australian squadron, arrived in Melboirno oh Saturday. She replaces the Danae, wHoh had been ordered home. The French Tarsteamer Finisterre left Melbourne on the 22nd for a cruise to Tasmania. London telegrams state that tho Antverp wool sales opened at an average decline all round of 5 per cent. The Gnlf of Finland, a steamer of the Thames and Mersey line, left the East lidia Docks on the 11th December, for Austraian ports. Other steamers of the same linewill follow at regular intervals. The purchasers of the wreck of the Hereford, availing themselves of the present weather, are rapidly getting the cirgo out of the ship. Two steam- tugs are bisfly employed, and two hundred tons rare brought to Melbourne in one day. Drers are required for further work. Stong hopes of floating the vessel are entertaied. The Steam Navigation Board hold an enquiry yesterday, and after briefly heaing evidence decided that, whilst the capain was guilty of an error of judgment, hevras not guilty of wilful default. His certifiate was consequently returned. Sydney, 26th Januay. T On Monday the Conference resumecthe consideration of the Federal Council Bill. A division was taken, resulting in both ides being equal. The measure was therfore virtually abandoned, though it is prokblo that Sir Henry Parkes may bring the mtter up in another form in the New South 'Vales Parliament. Mr. Mann's motion fr a uniform colonial tariff was carried, the Victorian delegates dissenting. A motionwas afterwards passed to the effect thai tho special circumstances of each colony sbnld be considered in passing the tariff. , The barque Cordillera, 843 tons, trom Sydney to San Francisco, waa wreckedyesterday at Cape Bowling, on the Nodiern Australian coast. The latest news from Samoa states that the schooner Active has been totally wruked at Apia, and that the King party are gaaing headway against their opponents. .
