NAVAL BR IGADE v. CITY RIFLES.
?¦ The Navala and City Rifles are to-day competing for the supremacy of the district as a shooting company. The match is one that is looked upon by the volunteers with much interest, and tho sum of £20, lodged in tho hands of Lieut. M'Credie, as a trophy stake, no doubt will be an incentive to both teams to do their best. Apart from this, the carbine men shoot against the rifle, so that if they should win, it will be from their superiority of men, and not weapons. This, however, is hardly to be expected, as the City Rifles are an old-established and crack corps. The ranges are 200, 400, and 500 yards ; 7 shots at each range. The morning squad, consisting of three Navals and two Riflemen, fired this morning ; the remaining 11 men fire this afternoon, commencing at 2 o'clock. The following are the scores made this morning : — Navals. Pfcs. Rifles. Pta Lieut. Bennett... 69 Hale 68 P.O. Stock ... 68 Ro3S 59 Band-Sgt. Dixon 64
