THE WEATHER EN ENGLAND. THE WAS IN CENTRAL ASIA. THE GREEK DIFFICULTY. FURTHER WARLIKE PREPARATIONS BY GREECE. [RXtTTBB'S TBIiXGKAJf S. j London, 24th January. The cold weather which has prevailed for some time past is now moderating, and a general thaw is taking place. The Thames is rapidly becoming clear of ice. Fresh news has come to hand from Central Asia regarding the war between the Russians and the Tekke-Turcomans. The former, under cover of bombardment, carried the Turcomans' positions close to Geok Tepe, and afterwards made a desperate assault on the trenches, but were heavily ropnlsed by the Tekkes. The fighting on both sides was most severe. Capetown, 24th January. Sir Herculea Robinson has arrived here to assume his position as Governor of the Cape Colony. Athens, 23rd January. The Greek Government is Btrongly opposed to the proposal of the Porte that a conference should be held at Constantinople to | determine the frontier question, and extensive preparations are still proceeding throughout Greece for the increase and mobilisation of the army, with the intention of obtaining the required cession of territory from Turkey, by force of arms if necessary.
