THE NUISANCE ON THE ADELAIDE ROAD.

♦ TO THE EDITOB OF THE EVENING POST. Sib — As the " friend " referred to in " Stylus' " letter, which appeared in yonr issue of the 13th inst.,_l beg to corroborate his statements re the night-soil nuisance on the Adelaide Road. It certainly was exactly as he stated. The state of the road and the stench was simply disgusting. I am, &c, "Pbdkstbiak. Wellington, 15th January.

We have received a letter from " Stylus," in reply to that of Mr. Kelliher, bat it is too long for insertion in fall. In reference to Mr. Kelliher' s statement that, in company with the Inspector of Nuisances, he had visited the Adelaide Road and could discover no trace whatever of the nuisance, " Stylus" writes:— "My first impression on reading this was that perhaps the twq days which had elapsed umce the nuisance was made might have erased most of the traces, but on visiting the spot this morning I find that this is only partially correct. True, in the lower portions of Adelaide Road South the traffic had obliterated nearly all traces of the nuisance, but not a quarter of a mile up the road there were stul distinctly visible marks of filth, in epite of their being on a hot, dusty, unsheltered road for three days and nightß." "Stylus" further gives his reasons for believing that Mr. Kelliher and the Inspector of Nuisances did not visit Adelaide Road South, where the nuisance occurred. In conclusion, our correspondent warns Mr. Kelliher that the next time anything of the kind comes under his notice he will at once inform the Inspector of Nuisances.
