The expenditure in excess of ¦ receipts for the quarter was therefore £40,300. Of the other revenues whioh go to Local Bodies, the gold duty- 1 -realised £9177, and gold fields revenue £4260. The expenditure of the Public Works Fund amounted to £426,944, the chief items being — Railways, £238,056 ; roads, £39,697; contingent defence, £38,500; public buildings, £36,978 ; miscellaneous publio works, £18,322 ; land purchases, . £17,818 ; immigration, £16,139.
