THE STATE OF THE STREETS.
? TO THE EDITOR O7 THE EVENING POST. Sir— l see that a large amount of virtuous indication is being expressed, at tho expense of the unfortunate City Councillors, because Willie-street and Manners-street are not in snch a state of repair as we could wieh ; but what could we possibly say of them were they to waste the ratepayers' money in putting them now in a thorough state of repair, seeing that these same streets will all have to be oat up in the course of the next month or two for the purpose of laying down the new water maint. Betides we know that there are ao repairers of (roads equal to the son and wind, but as we are obliged, in order to keep down the dost, to retain the streets in a perpetual state of winter, by means of our water-carts, is it to be wondered *t that they are cut tip in an apparently abnormally short period of time. I am, Ao., Audi Altbram Partsm. Wellington, 11th January.
