KILLED BY A SHARK.

A horrible shark aooident occurred at the Deep Book, opposite Kangaroo Pond, Brisbane Eiver. Some boys were bathing, and one named Alexander .Drury, 12 years of age, ; son of Mr. Albert Drury, clerk of the Executive Conncil, was seized by a large shark by both legs. The boy bsing a splendid swimmer, turned and fought, and got away until gearing the bank, when he was seized again and dragged under. A companion nan.cd Bergin jumped in to the rescue and got hold of Drury, but the shark was too strong for both* A third boy jumped in and seized Bergin, and with other- boys' assistance they dragged Drury away. The combat lasted for five minutes. Frightful injuries are done to both the poor bpy's legs, which are stripped from the calves downwards, and the ankle and- feet boms were crushed. Great loss of blood resulted, and the wa,ter for yards round was discolored. Amputation of both legs, below the knees, was performed by Dr. O'Doherty the same night, but the unfortunate youth died from exhaustion next morning. Drury has several times swam across the river. 'A young lady who has studied all the " ologies" wants to know if the crack of a rifle is where they pnt the powder in.
