The colonial forces at Mafeting are continually" skirmishing with the enemy, who appear determined not to fight in the open. On "Friday week a successful attack was made on 300 rebel Tambookies by Neßbit, who, with 180 men, killed 100 rebels, and captured a quantity of lire fttook. Tho casualties on tour- tide were not serious. The official returns show the available forces now engaged or on their way to engage in tho suppression of tho outbreak aggregate 1236 European infantry, 7165 European mounted men. 206 Hottentots, 9865 natives, or 16,472 men in all, with 10 field pieces and 2 mortars. No idea as to the probable duration of the hostilities can be formed. The situation in tho Transvaal is serious. The Dutch republicans are clamoring for the restoration of their country, and troops are being concentrated in readiness to suppress any revolt.
