Ariel Was ridden throughout, but Fool Play galloped nicely within himself, and won as he liked. Handicap Steeplechase,- of 150 sots ; 3£ miles —Agent, 1; Sportsman, 2; Ghost, 3. Lone Hand was the only horse to bolt, causing a howl of disappointment from* his backers. He' refused everything, and walked in. This was the great event of the day, and was considered to be the great trial between the best of Walters' stables, and the crack of the South — Foul PlayV" Betting — 2 to lon Billingsgate, 4to l'agat Foul Play, 4 to 1 agst Libeller, 5 to 1 agst Yatapa. The race. was looked upon, as a certainty for Billingsgate, but Foul Play had many friends, and was well backed, and as the result pro Ted, it -was luoky for Walters he had two in the string, for without Libeller he could never have landed the stake, Libeller winning by a length, with his stable companion a good third.
