H.M. schooner Sandfly has arrived from the Solomon Islands. She reports that the commander and five seamen were surprised and killed by the natives. The Ariel, reported as missing, has arrived, all well. A meeting has been called for the purpose of endeavoring to provide funds for Lajcock in a match against Hanlan for the championship of the world. _ . l)arginn, manager of the Branch City Bank, has been arrested for embezzlement of gold, valued at .£9OO. Melbourne, 29th November. The Australian team in their match with Adelaide won by seven wickets. Obituary — William Highett. The six days' pedestrian tournament commences to-day. Swan and O'Connor are the New Zealand competitors. The Intercolonial Conference has adopted a resolution in favor of a Supreme Court of Appeal in the colonies, and treaty for the extradition of absconding debtors and wife deserters. The Conference will meet at Sydney about Christmas.
