A four-roomed house in South Dunedin was totally burned down early thiB r morning. It was occupied by Thomas AlMiin. Tho furniture was insured for J6150 in .the National. Shannon, the owner, hod insured the house in the Standard office for JSISO. This Day. -Mr. Drysdale, drysalter, dropped down dead in George-street yesterday, from heart disease. Auckland, llth November. The members of the Auckland Hebrew Synagogue presented Mr. A. H. Nathan with an illuminated address and piece of plate, in recognition of his services as temporary minister. The new yacht building by Mr. Nicool for the Intercolonial Regatta is to be named Waiabia, or "The Water God," and is to be launched on Monday next, and will probably be ready fdr sea in a week after. She wiu be taken to Melbourne by Captain Press, a recent arrival in the colony, who served his .apprenticeship and has had great experience in pilot boats in the English Channel. It is not'improbable he will sail her in the race. It is confidently anticipated she will reflect scredit on the port. This Day. Kauri gum having risen £2 a ton, large . quantities are coming in. The Waste Lands Board propose to recommend* to Parliament to impose an export duty on. kauri gum, and issue licenses to dig similar to miner's rights. I A fire broke out in Williams* bakery, Grey-street, last night, through hot ashes Tbeing left in an exposed place. The damage was Blight, the fire being quickly extin- | guished. ! # Grahamstotvn, This Day. Owing to the agitation initiated here on the Patetere Block, a public meeting will be held .shortly to adopt a memorial to Governor Gordon, on his arrival in the colony, against the giving of the vice-regal assent to the withdrawal of the proclamation. There are now 60 prospectors at the Te Aroha goldfield.
