Another attempt was made yesterday to Set a license for another hotel in Sydenhom, ut, despite the arguments of the applicants, the Bench again refused. The Kaiapoi Fire Brigade, considering themselves ill-treated by the Council, have determined to resign on Tuesday next. They have promised, however, to turn out in case of fire within a week after that date.The Acclimatisation Society have resolved to send to California for more Ligurian bees. They have received a letter from England, stating that another attempt will be made next winter to send out bumble bees. Tho Catholic High School is to be" opened on the 20th September by the Bishop of Dunedin. Mr. Arthur Bathnrst, tho headmaster, arrived yesterday. A mass meeting of railway employ6s is called for to-morrow. Twenty more unemployed applied to the Works Office this morning, but were informed that the Government cannot put any more on the railway works at present. Mr. Conyers, the Commissioner of Railways, arrived from Dunedin last night, and will be interviewed by a deputation from the employes at Lyttelton.
