The decision in the case against the Evening News, for contempt of Court, has been deferred. Brisbane, 7th September. The Premier has ratified the mail contract via Torres Strait without reference to the proceedings which took place in the Legislative Assembly on the part of the Opposition. Melbourne, 7th September. Mr. Elsden succeeds Mr. Higinbotham, late Engineer-id-Chief. This Day. In the Legislative Assembly last night Mr. David Gannson was eleoted Chairman of Committees. Several Ministerialists protested against his eleotion.
