CHRISTCHURCH. 20th July.
In tho alterations going on at the City Council Chambers somo of the piles were taken up and found to bo as sound as tho day they were put down, twenty-five years ago. They wero of totara and black pine. This Dat. Mrs. Edward Penticost, aged 80, was severely gored by a cow, at Rangiora, yesterday. Lospito her great age, she is progressing favorably. The Government have appointed Messrs. Whitefoord and Boswick, E.M.s, to distribute the reward in the Osborne arson case. The railway employes' petition against tho proposed reduction in wages has been signed by nearly 700 men, and forwarded to tho Hon. E. Richardson for presentation. At the Poultry Association's annual exhibition, which is now being hold, there aro over 500 exhibits, and the affair is a great snecesb. The weather was showery this morning, but is now clearing up. More rain is greatly required.
