THE G. AND C. MINSTRELS.
+ The talented company which under the above title made its first appearance at the Academy of Manic on Saturday night must be congratulated on the good impression made by their opening performance. Several of the artistes are well-known old favorites, and their reception on Saturday proves that their popularity has not abated. A series of dissolving views shown over the entrance to the hall prior to the commencement of the performance were of themselves an attraction, and at 8 o'clock the street was inconveniently blocked by an admiring crowd. We should suggest to the proprietary that they should curtail this preliminary show, or they will have the City In. spector coming down upon them for creating an obstruction. When the curtain rose after the overture, which, by-the-way, was excellently played by the orchestra, the house was well filled in every part. The programme included solos, choruses, farces, stump speeches, &c, &c., the pieces being interspersed with plenty of " gag," a good deal of .'which was original and witty. Mr. Marshall displayed his fine voice to advantage in "The old fire in the grate," " The schooner on the sands," aiid other descriptive melodies ; Mr. Cary evoked loud applause by his rendering of " Eileen Allanah" and "Poor Jack Brown;" Hosea Eaßton
and Billy Wilson (tho lattcr's "cavern" gaped wider than over), besides giving somo : good songs, acted an Amusing farco called You Don't Say So," and Easton delivered an oratipn, a la Cnwoe, on education. Tho concluding sketch, "The Coming Man," was clever and highly entertaining in itself, and lost nothing iv the hands to which it was entrusted. The company will only play for a few nights, so that no time should be lost if our readers desire to pass a pleasant * evening with the G. and C.'s.
