THE LATE FIRE.
TO THB BDITOB OF THB BVBHINS POST. Bm— One does not like t< find fault except when it may possibly prevent evil in future. On arriving at Manners-street last Sunday I saw tbat it was impossible to stop the fire in the Opera House— that, constructed as it was, was certainly doomed. All the efforts of the firemen should have been exerted ia preventing tha spread of the fire. Had a hosQ bion carried on to the roof of the Wesleyan Church, the church and the buildings around would have been saved. A precious half-hour was lost, for, with the church on flra, it was certain that the flames I<&4 gained the mastery W b*A was dona so nobly and so well at th * corner of Cuba-street, should have b4en done hero, and only the < >pera House would have gono then. I too give my vote in favor of c steam flra engine, which cou'd be used, as ono of your correspondents suggest*, both on the land and (placed in a barge) on the water. I am, &c, OftLOOKSB.
