Bbrlin, 2od April. At to-day's sitting of the German Parliament a debate took place on the proposal for German official representation at the Australian Exhibitions. The President of the Imperial Chancellery said the action of tbe Government depended on the extent of representation by German exhibitors. The Government were not yet able to assent to the proposal. Loud on, 3rd April. Tho Standard states that the creditors of the Glasgow Bank have been offered 18s in the £1, which thoy are disposed to accept. Arrived : Lusitania, at Plymouth. In consequence of the disputed possession of certain mines the Chilian troops have invaded the Republic of Bolivio. The President of the latter has concluded an offensive and defensive alliance with Peru, and has declared war against Chili. In the Houso of Commons to-day, tho Secretary of State for the Colonies, replying to a question, said that it was not at present intended to establish a British settlement in New Guinea. Sir Arthur Gordon, on his return to Fiji would, however, report upon the steps advisable to be taken. The minimum of the Western Australian Loan has been fixed at 96. In the House of Commons to-day, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, replying to a question, said that a mixed occupation of Koumelia, after the Russian evacuation, had not yet been arranged, and that the British policy remained unchanged since the Berlin Congress. Tbe Sultan believes that he will be able to prevent popular agitation in Roumelia, but in England anxiety is felt concerning the matter. Tenders will be opened on the 9th inst. for the 4^ per cent. Western Australian loan of £100,000. The report of the Select Committee of the House of Commons unseats Sir Bryan O'Loghlen. t Tue Chancellor of the Exchequer made the budget statement in tbe House to-day. The rovenue of the past financial year was stated to be £83,125,000, and the expenditure for the same period £85,375,000, including the expenses of the Zulu war. The estimated revenue for the ensuing financial year is token at £83,000,000, and the expenditure is estimated at £81,125,000. Sir Stafford Northcote stated that he hoped the surplus would suffice for tho expenses of the Zulu war, and enable the redemption of £600,000 worth of Treasury bonds. The balance ot £4.750,000, Treasury bonds, would be prolonged lor twelve mouths. The budget proposes to increase by twopence the duty on cigars. Bombay, 2nd April. In consequence of the recent treacherous attack by hostile natives in the district of Jellalabad on Sandeman's camp, British columns have gone to Fyzabad and Charbagh. The Chief Commissioner of British Burmah at Rangoon has announced to tho Indian ' Government that he is anxious to protect British subjects from external turbulence, and suggests that the Internal Commission should give effect to his remonstrances against the recent barbarous conduct of the King of Burmah. The Indian Government consequently has strengthened the garrison oi British Burmah, but decides to maintain a defensive attitude, and refuses to allow a rupture unloss brought about' by overt acts of oppression and insult on the part of the King.
