SAVINGS BANKS IN CONNECTION WITH PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
« TO THB EDITOR OP THE EVENING POST. Sir,— l fear that the difficulties pointed out by me in connection with the accounts necessary to be kept have been misconstrued into opposition to tbe system. I should like now to state that I am strongly in favor of establishing satiugs banks in connection with our public schools, but the question is one which requires the most careful consideration, and at tbe conference of school committees on Friday last, I felt it ray duty merely to point out some of the difficulties which at the time presented themselves. Before concluding to adopt the principle it behoves each and every member of tlie respective committees to ca-efully con«Wer the derails as to tbe mannerof working. . so that confidence, on the part of children and parents, may be inspired, and the result prove a success. At the conference I suggested that the head master of each school be the officer Q appointed to receive the deposits. Upon k mature consideration I see no reason for altering such suggestion. With the assistance of a gentleman of experience I shall, at tbe next meeting, submit to the committees a system which I think will prove efficient and satisfactory, and one which will not entail a large amount of labor upon the gentleman appointed to tbe office of banker. I ask you to insert this in the hope th»t some of our citizens who have in any way taken an active part in connection with similar institutions may give tbe ~? committees tbe benefit of their experience. I I shall be glad to receive any suggestions on the subject prior to the 24th in«t I have, &c, 8' Wellington, A. T. Maginnitt. 13th January, 1879.
